Development Design Reservoir and Simulation Engineer

Denbury is seeking a Senior Reservoir/Simulation Engineer for their Reservoir Technology Team. This position will report to the Director of Reservoir Engineering and is an in-person position at Denbury’s corporate office in Plano, Texas. This role has two primary tasks: (1) constructing dynamic reservoir models and providing technical reservoir engineering support to the multidisciplinary Development Design teams building optimized Waterflood and CO2 field development plans and (2) supporting the Business Unit teams on smaller-scale initiatives.


Areas of responsibility for this role include Denbury Business Unit regions located on the Gulf Coast, and the Rocky Mountain area of the U.S.  A qualified candidate will have dynamic solid modeling skills, experience in CO2 EOR, and a background in field development planning. Additionally, the ideal candidate should have broad background experience in classical reservoir engineering methods with the equation of state modeling, integrating experimental data into the simulation (PVT, SCAL, PTA, etc.), and history matching. The Reservoir and Simulation Engineer is expected to collaborate daily with the Development Design team, present their work, and offer constructive dialogue in a collaborative team setting. Additional tasks include designing expansion and redevelopment strategies, providing guidance on reservoir performance and surveillance, and delivering high-quality, detailed technical analyses.


In this position, one must communicate well with team members from many organizations to receive projects and provide technical feedback with the ability to work independently and efficiently and take on various tasks and projects simultaneously while adhering to strict deadlines.

  • Solve reservoir engineering-related problems across a broad spectrum of fields using waterflood and CO2 flooding using classical, analytical, and reservoir simulation approaches
  • Work with multidisciplinary teams to create dynamic models to build optimal EOR development plans
  • Understand the geologic model and create grid block representation in the dynamic model
  • Initialize model with fluid properties and equations of state
  • Conduct history matches of field performance
  • Create predictive runs to determine an optimized plan
  • Provide dynamic model outputs in an organized format to the economic modeling engineer
  • Integrate learnings from well log, core, well performance, and well test analyses to evaluate and optimize flood pattern performance
  • Assist geologists in preparing reservoir descriptions through the well log, core, well performance, and well test analyses
  • Experience with economic evaluations and understanding of project economics
  • Familiarity with reservoir characterization and petrophysics is an asset
  • This position will have exposure to bottom hole pressure, data acquisition, and pressure transient analysis
  • Must be able to speak, read, and write in English fluently


Skills, Education & Experience:

  • Minimum experience:  15 years
  • Minimum B.S. in Engineering with a preference in Petroleum or Chemical Engineering
  • Experience in EOR processes, including water flooding and CO2 flooding
  • Proficiency with dynamic modeling software such as Tempest More, Eclipse, or CMG
  • Project management skills and can prioritize work and schedule accordingly
  • Demonstrated ability to recognize and solve problems working with others
  • Must be able to speak, read, and write in English fluently
  • Experience working as part of a multidiscipline team
  • Desired software experience: ARIES, Petra, DSS, OFM, and the full suite of Microsoft Office tools
