Senior Contract Specialist

Denbury is searching for a full-time Senior Contract Specialist to work within its Plano, Texas corporate office.  The position will support Denbury’s Supply Chain Management (SCM) and Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) departments and report to the Contracts Manager.  The Senior Contract Specialist will be responsible for preparing, negotiating and executing contracts with Denbury’s Drilling and Workover service providers (and potentially other vendors) as well as administering ‘Request For Proposal’ (RFP) and ‘Request For Quote’ (RFQ) processes to source services and materials. 

 

The Senior Contract Specialist will operate within Denbury’s ‘SAP procure to pay’ ERP system.  The position requires integration with the internal departments of Drilling and Workover, Project Management, Construction, Production Operations, CO2 Supply & Pipeline Operations, Enterprise Asset Management, Legal, Accounting and Tax and will support each in executing Denbury’s initiatives.  Position responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Manage assigned purchasing categories, including but not limited to Drilling and Workover, and key vendor relationships to meet Denbury’s performance and financial goals

  • Draft, negotiate and execute agreements with Denbury vendors, including IADC Drilling Contracts, Master Goods and Service Agreements, Engineering Service Agreements and project-specific Service Orders

  • Execute agreements with appropriate indemnity, confidentiality and insurance requirements, based on vendors’ scope of work, and favorable commercial terms and conditions

  • Build SAP Outline Agreements to manage contract lifecycle and perform actual vs. forecasted spend analysis

  • Prepare RFP/RFQ packages including vendor sourcing, RFP/RFQ document preparation and issuance, timely cost analysis and communication of commercial recommendations to internal stakeholders

  • Work closely with the Contracts and Procurement Managers to develop and execute effective contract strategies to procure services and materials

  • Exercise initiative and follow through of commitments with internal stakeholders and Denbury’s vendors

  • Adhere to all Denbury policies and SCM’s Contracts and Purchasing Manual processes and procedures

  • Work in accordance with SCM’s document storage and retention guidelines, including uploading contracts to the appropriate internal repositories

 

Experience & Skills:

Senior Contract Specialist shall have the following experience and skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering or related field required

  • 5+ years of work experience working in supply chain, contracts or related field required

  • 3+ years of work experience in the energy industry preferred

  • Experience with SAP Purchasing ‘Procure to Pay’ modules, including SAP Service Masters and Contracts, strongly preferred

  • Strong understanding of contractual agreements, including indemnification, warranty, and confidentiality provisions and commercial terms

  • Extensive experience executing RFP/RFQ process from issuance to project award

  • Ability to assess and communicate the financial impact and risks inherent for proposed contract strategies

  • Strong attention to detail and analytical skills

  • Ability to remain organized and appropriately prioritize work in a fast pace environment

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word

  • Experience with ISN (contractor management platform) a plus

 

Work will primarily be conducted in an office environment; travel may be required to district and field offices and/or oil and gas production facilities, with the occasional need to wear personal protective equipment. Position requires the ability to frequently communicate information and to manage the possible stress of an office environment. Work may include being stationary for long periods of time, with occasional movement about the office. Ability to lift up to 10 pounds is required. Position requires constant operation and viewing of a computer screen and other office machinery.
